History

PLAN has evolved out of a program that was established by the Collier County Medical Society in 2003. In its efforts to identify and initiate a program that would address the gaps in access to healthcare in the community, it established the Collier We Care program. Collier We Care embraced the Florida Department of Health's Volunteer Healthcare Providers Act which provided sovereign immunity for pro bono care.

In the summer of 2004, Collier We Care received its 501C3 status and received assistance thru the United Way of Collier County for a technical assistance program from the American Project Access Network to aid in its metamorphisis. It received a technical assistance grant for the American Project Access Network(APAN/PLAN) to aid in its metamorphosis into a Physician Led Access Network. Collier We Care became PLAN of Collier County in January 2005.
