Physicians participate in PLAN because:

• While most of our community physicians have been providing uncompensated care to their patients who may have fallen on difficult times, PLAN provides an organized, integrated system for the requested referral, pharmacy assist, follow up and compliance needed.
• We have the support of all three hospital systems as well as the participation of numerous clinics, laboratory and radiology centers, allowing for seamless interface. As a Physician Led initiative there is equitable distribution of patients.
• Each patient is screened for income eligibility. Patients are also screened for eligibility in Medicare and Medicaid, and if found eligible for either, are redirected accordingly.
• Our volunteer healthcare providers receive sovereign immunity from the state of Florida for the pro bono care they provide.
• PLAN physicians are assured flexibility in the amount and type of participation in the program, allowing for seasonal shifts of availability.
• PLAN physicians understand and support the belief that "A small effort from many physicians results in a huge impact in increasing access to health care".
• The volunteer care our PLAN physicians provide is identified, tracked, acknowledged, and reported to the community.
• PLAN's systematic approach to providing health care to the underserved has received recognition from our County Board of Commissioners, who have issued a proclamation on our behalf.
• Nationally, physicians participating in PLAN programs set the standard for community service, encouraging other professionals to participate i.e. dentists and mental health providers.
